Sports Clubs and Sport facilities in Bochum
Bochum has about 440 sports clubs with a total 91,200 members. But the city has many more sports facilities to offer: for example, you can let off steam on any of the 63 playing fields around the town. Other sports facilities include several mini-golf courses, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a 10-pin bowling centre. The Office of Sport and Public Baths (Städtische Sport- und Bäderamt) looks after the local sports clubs and provides information about sporting events in Bochum.More information about sports clubs in Bochum can be found on the Sport and Clubs Site. Football clubs
Bochum has two professional football clubs:- VfL Bochum 1848 e.V.
VfL Bochum 1848 e.V.: played in the First Division up to the end of the 2004/2005 season. The club's home ground is the rewirpower Stadium which can accommodate approx. 38,500 people. - SG Wattenscheid 09 e.V.
This club plays in the Lohrheide Stadium which has a capacity of approx. 20,700 people.
Olympic Centre Westphalia / Bochum
The Olympic Centre Westphalia/Bochum is one of 20 Olympic Centres in Germany. The main disciplines here are track and field events, rhythmic gymnastics, and (synchronised) swimming. Disability sport, too, is an increasingly important area of focus. Some 70 top-class athletes plus more than 100 young hopefuls are coached at the Centre. In order to provide athletes with the best possible training conditions, the Centre provides a full-care boarding facility.more infos ... (in German only)
