Office of Council Affairs and the Lord Major
This department deals with matters relating to the City Council and the Lord
Mayor. It is also responsible for liaison with twin towns and for "Bochum-Agenda 21" in which the people of Bochum are entitled to
participate.

Press and Information Office
Apart from maintaining contact with journalists, liaising with the media and
preparing press conferences, the Press and Information Office is responsible for
shaping and coordinating the City of Bochum's public image. The Offices's
internet team designs, coordinates, and edits the City of Bochum's web site.

Office of Environmental Health and Safety
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety provides a wide range of
services, e.g., bomb disposal, matters relating to the keeping of dangerous
animals, hunting and fishing, and food hygiene. In the commercial sector, the
Office is responsible for the inspection of restaurants and public houses. The
Citizens' Bureaus (Bürgerbüros) which are located around the town and for which
this Office is responsible provide a passport, identity card, and registration
service.

- Bochumer Symphoniker
Bochum Symphony Orchestra
The Bochum Symphony Orchestra, under its current musical director Steven
Sloane, is the only German orchestra to have received the accolade "Best concert
programme" for the 1996/97 season by the German Association of Music Publishers.
The symphony concerts, which are hugely popular, are devised around special
themes.

From its foundation in 1919, Bochum Civic Theatre has been one of the best
known theatres in Germany. Matthias Hartmann, director since the 2000/2001
season, handed over to Elmar Goerden in summer 2005. Performances are also
staged in the studio theatre (Kammerspiele) and TuT (basement theatre).
